Underage drinking and drug use prevention is officially measured by looking at statistics and data over a number of years. But there is another way to measure the power of prevention and that is through families, just like yours, that have been impacted by our programs, tools and services. Our next three eNewsletters will take a look at three different families and how just a few short weeks have made a long lasting family impact.

We begin with Dave and Laura. They have their hands full. They have a blended family of two adults and three kids from different marriages. As they attended our Guiding Good Choices workshop series, some good things began to happen. They learned how to help their teen and tweens deal with stress and conflict. They spent time helping their kids learn refusal skills to turn down offers of drugs and alcohol from friends and students. In just five weeks the family dynamic began to change. At the end of the course, their kids actually thanked their parents for attending the workshop. They said “We know you guys work all week and you could spend your evenings doing something else. We appreciate you going – it makes us think you really care.”

Every single child is at risk for underage drinking and drug use. That’s why prevention is so important. Prevention is being proactive parents like Dave and Laura. If you or your family has been impacted by alcohol or drug use, you know how important this message is. As you decide the charities you will invest in this year, please consider a donation to DrugFreeAz.org to reach more families like Dave and Laura’s. There is no better investment than one that strengthens our kids and our families.
