Making safety a priority for your teens during New Year’s Eve allows for a fun and safe celebratory night that puts parents at ease. Last year, we offered simple steps parents can take to safeguard their teen during the New Year’s Eve festivities. This year we want to encourage parents to take those same steps all year long.

Here are sample resolutions parents can make to help keep their kids safe year-round:

·         Stay in the know with your teen’s plans, including where they will be, who else will be there and for how long they will be out

·         Having and keeping a fully charged cell phone at all times is easier said than done,  so recommend your teen carry with them an extra cell phone charger

·         Create opportunities to have brief, yet frequent, prevention talks with your teen. Rehearse with your child what they would say to their friends if a risky situation came up

·         Establish agreed upon curfew and check-in times

·         Develop a family policy so your kids know exactly where you stand on drugs and alcohol

These are just some of the ways you can ensure safety all year long for your family. Which resolution will you make first?
