When you stop to think about your parenting style, would you classify yourself as the absolute ruler of your house or the doormat that gets walked all over? That may sound extreme, but parenting usually does fall into those two categories, versus being a happy medium.
Here’s some food for thought:
- How do you define your parenting style?
- Is it similar or different to how you were parented?
- How would your kids describe your parenting style?
These can be emotional questions, but the good news is that you have the power to change the answers and move your family forward in a more positive direction. While there isn’t a quick fix to guarantee a picture-perfect family, small changes build momentum and foster more positive changes. And it will be difficult at first, but worth it, as research shows that well-bonded families are less likely to have kids that turn to drugs or alcohol.
