Summer Updates & Drug News

I don’t know about your summer, but around DrugFreeAz.org, ours has been flying by!

We’ve been wrapping up a busy season of parent workshops (thanks to all who hosted!) gearing up for our Teen Pressure video and participating in some great local conferences with the Arizona School Resource Officer Association (ASROA) and with the Arizona chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). We loved interacting with the attendees and providing drug and alcohol prevention and education materials for them to use in their communities.

Next stop on the agenda? Getting ready for the back-to-school season (yes, already!) and we’re excited to share more about that soon!

Before we rush the summer along, here are some of this week’s drug headlines to keep you in the loop:

  • Did you know alcohol can be smoked? It’s true, it causes an immediate intoxication effect and it’s extremely dangerous. Here’s what you need to know from Tuesday's Today Show interview with The Partnership at Drugfree.org's Steve Pasierb to stay one step ahead.

  • Toddler marijuana overdoses are increasing. How is that possible? Through the edible marijuana options available (cookies, candy, etc.) that kids might find around and not be able to discern the danger. See the increase in cases Banner Poison and Drug Information Center is reporting that they’ve experienced so far this year.

  • The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made a fantastic announcement about the progress they’ve made against synthetic drugs. (Hint: It’s the biggest synthetic drug take down ever!) Let’s hear it for this great progress!

Have a safe and fun upcoming 4th of July!
