When the 3Moms initiative was founded three years ago, it began with just three Valley mothers whose lives and families were impacted by their children’s drug use. Today, the initiative has grown to include several more moms and a few dads. The mission of 3Moms is to create awareness for parents and caregivers about the importance of drug prevention.
The 3Moms work to educate parents and caregivers of children from elementary school to high school and encourage others from across Arizona to share their stories so that others can learn from their experiences. Through this effort, the 3Moms hope to save lives and inspire other parents and caregivers to join in a united front to keep our children safe and healthy. To date, we have nearly 40 people participating in the program.
May 2011 is the third anniversary of the 3Moms program. DrugFreeAz.org will be hosting an event to commemorate this milestone. The event, called a Tweetup will take place on Tuesday, May 3 at the Dunkin’ Donuts on 40th Street and Thomas in Phoenix.
Never heard of a Tweetup before?
A Tweetup is an online and in-person “celebration” wherepeople on social media come together to meet in person. Here, you can meet people you might only otherwise know virtually. A Tweetup is a great opportunity to connect with people in your network and share a little more than 140 characters at a time. The 3Moms Tweetup will take place online and in-person.
At this event, there will be 45-minute Tweet Chats hosted by DrugFreeAZ staff and Tweet Chatters to include:
- Carey Peña from 3TV, (online and in-person) new mom celebrating her first mother’s day.
- Karen Franklin and Lauren King, (online and in-person) a Phoenix—area mother and daughter team who wrote ‘Addicted Like Me’, a book that explores their candid struggles with addiction
DrugFreeAz.org staff and the 3Moms will be on hand throughout the morning to take questions about parent tips, Partnership programming and any other inquiries tweeters may have. In addition, a donation box will be on location for anyone wanting to donate to the cause.
