As we go into this Mother’s Day weekend, we want to recognize everything that moms do. There’s no end to the list, and really no definite moment when your role is finished. Part of that role includes your influence on your kids. Parents are a big influence on their child’s choices, and research indicates parental disappointment is a leading factor as to why kids turn down drugs and alcohol.
Here’s some insight from DrugFreeAz.org Program Manager, Kim Obert, featured in this month’s “Arizona Health & Living” Magazine in and article entitled,“A Mother’s Role in Drug Prevention”:
“Our children look up to us at all ages to not just be mothers, but nurterers, role models, educators and protectors,” says Obert. “While they may want their independence, we have a responsibility to educate them and help guide them on the path to a healthy, productive life and that includes a substance free life.”
