Do you respect yourself? Do you respect yourself enough to be drug free? This year’s Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23-31) theme is to Respect Yourself. Be Drug Free, created by Johanna C. of Raleigh, NC. There are many activities you can do with your children to celebrate being drug-free and to raise awareness of the destruction caused by drugs. Here are eight activities provided by the National Family Partnership you can do with your children during Red Ribbon Week:

1.      Enter the Red Ribbon Photo Contest for a chance to win an iPad for you and your family as well as $1,000 for your child’s school.

2.      Encourage your kids to create next year’s Red Ribbon Week theme.

3.      Watch Natural High’s free celebrity drug-prevention videos with your child and use their discussion questions to have a conversation with them about drugs and alcohol.

4.      With your child, decorate your yard with red ribbons.

5.      Together, sign the Red Ribbon Pledge.

6.      Create a Wear Red Day with your family.

7.      Talk with your child about the dangers of drugs. Let them know that alcohol and drug use will not be tolerated.

8.      Collaborate with your child to write an article about the importance of Red Ribbon Week for your child’s school’s Parent Newsletter.

“Red Ribbon Week is so much fun and I am very excited,” said Johanna. “When you respect yourself, you love yourself, you are healthy and you don’t do drugs. I hope I can help a lot of kids.”
