Will you join us in a little spring-cleaning effort by cleaning out your medicine cabinet? April 30, 2016 is National Drug Take-Back Day, where people from all over the country will sort through their medicine cabinets to find any unused, unwanted and expired medication so that they may safely dispose of it.
The effort aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs with the intent to educate about the dangers of Rx abuse.
If you know you will be participating and are looking for a location where you can safely dispose your medication – click here for a list of hosted collection sites.
Are you wondering why you should take the time to get rid of unwanted medications? Prescription drug use is an epidemic in Arizona – 1 in 5 high school seniors have reported abusing these substances. With access to parents and grandparents’ medicine cabinets, it makes teens easy to get their hands on medication they shouldn’t consume. You can also use this time to talk to your children about the dangers of using medications that have not been prescribed to them. It’s never too late or too early to begin the conversation. As one of the most powerful tools parents can use to connect and protect their kids, communication is the key to prevention.
