Our Lives. Our Health. Our Future.

Because summer is a season filled with celebrations and recreational activities such as graduation, proms, sporting events, and outdoor activities, substance use and abuse can happen, now is the time to learn important prevention strategies.

This week (May 18-24) the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is hosting National Prevention Week 2014, an annual health observance dedicated to increasing public awareness of, and action around, substance abuse and mental health issues.  There are many ways to make a difference and get involved, from planning a community event to participating in the “I Choose” Project.

As part of the week SAMHSA is hosting three free webinars on effective prevention approaches.

Monday, May 19, 2-3:15 (EDT) Social Host Policies From Theory to Practice

Panelists will discuss ways that organizations might develop, promote passage of, and encourage public compliance with effective social host legislation.

Thursday, May 22, 11 a.m. - noon (EDT) - The Medicine Abuse Project

Marcia Lee Taylor with Partnership for Drug-Free Kids (formerly The Partnership at DrugFree.org) will highlight free resources to help community prevention efforts, including multimedia community education programs, public service announcements, digital tools, and social media resources.
